Spinforming is seen as the exception to the high investment normally associated with coldforming.

The term spinforming generally refers to a group of forming processes used to produce a great variety of hollow parts of differing shapes and variable wall thicknesses. Almost any material that is available in sheet or tube form can be spinformed.

Spinforming offers numerous advantages, with the major ones being flexibility of the process, material yield and improved mechanical properties. Material strength is also increased via a fully worked and compacted grain structure.

Common to all spinforming processes is the rotation of the work piece. A forming tool, usually a roller, is fed into the rotating work piece along a prescribed path to plastically deform the part. Multiple passes are usually required to produce a finished part. The process has been described as visually resembling watching a potter spin a vase or pot. The equipment resembles a metal turning lathe, although much heavier in construction.

Formitt Metal Labs takes this process a step further, offering state-of-the-art CNC controls and 30 years of experience. Our patented technology offers incomparable process control and repeatability.
